If not found in the black letter law of the constitution I am sure that it can be found in the penumbral areas.
Which is lawyerspeak for, "Congress can find a Constitutional interpretation to pass any legislation it wants any time it wants." So why even have a Constitution? It's just getting in the way of the sweeping social change the progressives have always wanted. Why not just get rid of it?
The auto insurance analogy is flawed for several reasons. First, auto insurance is only required for the operation of a vehicle on a public roadway (an activity licensed by the states). Secondly, the states mandate coverage of the automobile, not the individual (driver). Thirdly, operating a motor vehicle is a privilege, not an absolute right.
