First American may be the first to come to light, but I can almost guarantee that all the title companies were  marketing such products, to establish affiliations that would bring in lots of business and revenue.  Some time back I happened upon a title product by a company other than First American which was being marketed to a small local lender, and after reading it I was stunned:  the title company insured nothing, had every imaginable loophole, and such broad, vague language that the document wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.  Oh, but the "price was right" and the turn-around time was fast.   I'm sorry for First American, because their SC people are phenomenal and as honest and forthright and can be.  Could this wake up some lenders and bring business back to the local arena?
