I have done work for SDI since 2005. I cannot recall a time that I have had a payment issue with them. The few times my invoice has not matched up with the check stub I get with payment, it has been an issue of my not thoroughly reading the search instructions (type of copies, etc). There have been times that I have NOT added a copy charge, and SDI has taken it upon themselves to ADD payment for copies that I sent.
My experience with SDI is that they BIG on constant communication. Once I figured that out (and it took me a while), I have had very few problems. Someone on their end will occassionally have to call me b/c I've forgotten to write the names I've checked in judgments (MY fault) and they've been very kind, even though my error has caused them to have to spend time tracking me down to get verification that I've run all the correct names. If I receive an order that I do not feel comfortable with (ie - property worth double my E&O in a county with questionable indexing, or an update of another abstractor's case without a copy of that abstractor's search or an order that I feel is worth considerably more than the fee they are showing for it), I call immediately so we can decide what to do from there.
All of the staff have always been kind, helpful and great to work with. And I'll state again, any billing issues I've had with them have been the sort mentioned in the previous posts ... the order forms all look alike at first glance, but often have subtle differences in search requirements (24 month chain needed, types of copies needed, etc), so it is my job to thoroughly read those search requirements for each order. I have refused orders that I did not agree to the pricing on (those are reassigned) and there are some that they have agreed to pay a higher fee for me to do it, and I've been paid the agreed upon fee.
Again, I've done work with SDI for 5 years now and enjoy working with them now more than I ever have in the past. Ed, I'd take Sam up on his offer to go though your invoices one on one with him and I'm sure things will be taken care of to your satisfaction. It has not been my experience that they are one of those companies out there (and there are MANY) who are out to get over on their abstractors.
