I do not agree that the context in which Cuomo used the word "shepherd" was different from the contexts you mention here. Cuomo's a Catholic... why wouldn't he be using "shepherd" in the same sense as any other Christian would, or any other person familiar with that metaphor?
And for humility? You only even attempted to refute one of my examples. I've read Douglas Macarthur's biography-- and it was not short ;-) You could try to tell me next that he was humble. You'd be wrong. He wasn't.
I admit that I think of George C. Scott as Patton, which may introduce some bias ;-). But your argument has no logic. I have no doubt that Patton cared greatly for his troops-- but what has humility got to do with that? It is certainly possible to care for someone and not be humble! My dad cares for me greatly, but I would never accuse him of being especially humble ;-) Same with leading up front-- what the heck does that have to do with being humble? Custer was another military leader who was always at the front in battle-- you gonna try to tell me he was humble next? Napoleon led from the front! A man of great humility? Not so much. Need I go on?
Humility means humbleness-- it does not mean whatever you want it to mean.
