Hewlett Packard used to make a  handheld scanner called "Capshare".   You run it down the document & then print out the images later (either downloaded to a computer or to a portable printer).  I've seen them on EBay & I used one for years with a fair amount of success.  Copies in the RODS in Mass are generally around .50/page so for a long time it made sense to cough up the $300  cost for one.  Fortunately, now most  documents are scanned & imaged & are available to print for free from your own computer so I don't see too many in use anymore.
