I suppose each state is different.  In Louisiana there is no advantage to physically going to many parish courthouses.  Some don't even keep their land records on site - the only way to search is online.    And some are entirely online to a certain point in history, then in house for older records.

In these cases the only thing to brag about is paying mileage and parking fees, often wasted.
