I got an email from Rob also. Personally, I'm not willing to give information on who my clients are, and I'm not willing to refer one of my abstractor friends to a company I know nothing about, either. Nor will I turn over 40- or 60-year full searches around in 24 hours. I actually came to SOT today to check up on them.  I found this exchange to be most informative, especially the responses to the questions/speculations about the requested information on the engagement package.

The real kicker for me was Onandaga's response on the other thread to Robert Yant (who gives his name on his post, as opposed to Onandaga), who writes that Onandaga hasn't paid him. Onandaga is  "calling his lawyer in the morning" to sue Yant for libel. I'm wondering whether I want to do business with a client that handles billing disputes in this manner. I'm wondering whether I want to do business with an Abstracting Company that even HAS a lawyer.

Nah.

But just so Onandaga doesn't misunderstand, I'm not disinetersted in working for them because Robert Yant claims he wasn't paid. I sent him an email asking for the particulars so I could make up my own mind about that. Payment disputes happen. It's the response to the claim that cinched it for me.
