My papaw was Hallie Nolen Perry. He was a lineman for TVA when the Manhattan Project started. He had a hand in the construction of K-25 and X-10 as well as Y-12 (the latter of which is the only facility still known by its wartime code name).
He later became a Fire Alarm Technician for Roane-Anderson Company and was one of the few individuals who wore what was known as a "rainbow" ID badge, which meant he could access any area of the Project. I wrote about him a while back in a blog entry in which I paid tribute to the nation's veterans. He and my mamaw lived in a Cemesto home on East Damascus Road until their deaths in 1964 and 1969, respectively.
My daddy's name was Richard, and he lived there until he left to join the Navy in 1951. After that, he and my mom traveled for his work as a construction electrician. They settled here in PA when the family got to big to keep moving around the country. Good chatting with you, Dave.
Regards,
Scott Perry
