Yes the good old State of NY needs money folks. The NY legislative body who can't pass a budget but they were able to pass this new money grabbing policy, We got the notice on this and I have had our accountant look into this. He has advised us to go ahead and apply for our sales tax id #. Come September 1st all abstracts are to have a sales tax charge.

 If the state wants to do this then collect it at the closing table. Is the independant abstractor the only one who is going to have to do this? How will it work for the title agency/underwriter who has staff produce the abstract? Will they not have to charge sales tax? To us the only sensible way it can be done (if it has to be done), should be collection of sales tax at the closing table.
