Crawford county's not even that remote an area. The county seat, Pittsburg, is the biggest city in the southeastern part of Kansas with a population of about  20,000.  And Joplin, Missouri, an even bigger small city of about 50,000 that  is big enough to qualify as a "metropolitan area" for Census purposes is only 30 miles away.

Heck, Pittsburg KS even has an indoor shopping mall!
