In one small county here, the charge is .25 cents a page for unassisted copies. The next county over is $1.00 per page for unassisted copies. We have to do everything ourselves.... make our own copies from microfilm even. (which I prefer however) I think the high price is a cash cow for these county offices. You've got multiple county offices in the same building, who are all getting their paper from the same provider in bulk quantities (think truckload), so the price is probably very low. They are most likely getting volume discounts, which would result in paper costing pennies, yet they turn around and collect what??.......... 900% profit? More in places where the charge is $2 to $3. Where does this money go and what is it being used for?
I can remember someone posting information here in the past about someone suing a county agency (or some governmental office) for overcharging on copy costs, which they won. Does anyone remember that?
