This is part and parcel to the reason that California notary law was changed a year and a half ago to require notaries to get the name, address, license, signature AND thumbprint of the signers in their notary journal to prove that the person did appear there before them.
I know questions were asked about why CA would bother, but this situation in other states does highlight the reason for such a system being in place in those states. Hey Lucy, you got some splain'in ta do....
