All independent contractors should expect a 30 to 90 day payment schedule. All companies run on this policy.

Small independent title compaines should get use to this and accept it, cause its the american way.

Are you out of your mind? All companies do NOT "run on this policy."  And accepting it is a sure way to go broke.  Evenutally, when a large company defaults you lose at least 3 months of payments for your work!   I'm not willing to work for 3 months for free - and nobody else should either.

My clients do not "run on this policy," because I won't accept it.  Our invoices are due NET30, if we don't get it within 45 days - we cut them off. 

I don't know what America you live in, but my creditors won't allow me 90 days to pay a bill.  Try not making your mortgage payment for 90 days and see what happens.  You will surely have some late fees added to your balance - and interest continues to accure. 

FREE credit is certainly not the American way.  It is "accepting" it that got the abstractors into this mess.
