Thanks for the post, Leigh.  I would only add that the article failed to explore the environmental ramifications of disposing of these panels once they have outlived their economic usefulness.  These things can contain harmful substances like lead, cadmium and silicon.  The industry admits that at present, solar panels are not recyclable.  Furthermore, it is interesting to note that even the most stringent recycling laws in the world specifically exempt solar panels.
