I'm afraid your arguments are simply not persuasive, Old Man.
Couple things. First off, government involvement in the market is not capitalism. In the strictest political sense, it's actually closer to fascism. Secondly, your argument that insurers are "reaping huge profits" doesn't withstand close scrutiny in light of the fact that most health insurers are run by non-profits. Thirdly, how can "not having a government option" be considered a "bailout"? Not sure of your logic on that. I also don't see how having less insurers from which to choose (which a government option would most certainly lead to) is fair to the consumer.
As far as AARP is concerned, it's come under fire because of concerns over a possible conflict of interest in its support for the healthcare law. AARP licenses its brand to many insurers across the country, yet no one seems to be raising concerns that it stands to reap huge financial rewards (read:profits) from its support of such a government option.
Things are going very well for us on this end. My wife and I are looking forward to spending a week in Virginia Beach, (our first vacation in four years). I think I remember you mentioning that you went to Penn State. I've been working about 30-40 miles from State College. We're staying plenty busy down here in the ol' Keystone, thanks to all the gas drilling activity around the region. Some of these 100- & 150-year titles can be challenging, but I'm blessed to be doing what I love and I'm having a blast.
Anyway, it's good to chat with you again, F. Lee. Take care.
Regards,
Scott Perry
