Back when I first started doing this work, there were signs up in the record rooms that stated that indices could not be copied. Then, after computers were installed, they added the caveat except for personal use. There are still signs in some record rooms that remind the users that the indices are not warranted and the court clerk has no liability for their accuracy. This at least allowed examiners to print out the indices of builders and developers to annotate and use in future title searches.
I will send a client my adversing, but not a copy of the index. If a client wants something that wasn't recorded during the specified search period, they are usually charged more because of the extra work involved. How much more depends on what they require.
