Courthouse Junkie here (or was before I was laid off).
A lot of companies sadly use us for mere document retrievals, which means demand. They basically take the instrument and plug it into a bigger package. Worse, that package might have been put together by an off shore production company in a foreign company for mere dollars.
I have seen some people on here say, and I agree, you should charge a lot for a single document retrieval unless you provide it as part of a "umbrella package". You could also sell it in bulk "I can get it for $10 per instrument but only for orders of 10 or more". See what I did there? Bang - you just made $100 USD plus copies in one day.
I also agree with the Paralegal statement: do it for less than it would cost for a paralegal to do the same thing...but keep in mind Paralegal's can be/are EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!.
I hope this helps even though I am late to the party.
XOXO
