I was in a slump and filled out their vendor package. I think that was Jan 2011.I never did get any work from them. Now they are circulating a vendor update request, because they now require the search fee to include copy costs up front. Copies for current deed, pert pages of mtg, pert subord, pert modifications, and releases of mortgages if they were specified in the order worksheet. So, you either overprice yourself out of the job or you end up giving away copies.
Originally, I did add in for the tech fees, but it's not that simple, there is the a whole menu of additional varying fees for the type of search (owner, bringdown, plat copy, etc).
Maybe it's easier for them to get a flat fee for their expenses, but I find it crazy to think that we can accurately estimate the copies. Especially if the current deed is a Foreclosure and they are expecting copies of all the notices.
