Off the top of my head, not an IP lawyer, etc., I thought copyright pertained to original content. I vaguely recall a court case maybe 20 years ago where a phone company was denied copyright protection for the phonebook. Photographic interpretation of a statue may be art; photo copy of a statute may be something else.
In any case, I can only imagine the reaction of the our local court clerk if he ever saw my copyright mark on "his" deeds!
