I remember doing a title search years ago in Clinton, Ct. I had to go back to a deed dated sometime in the 1790's. The title holder purchased the property in British pounds. I was not sure if America was still using British currency after the Revolution or if the seller just preferred to be paid in pounds.

In the Southern states and Carribean the gold/silver content of the coin was more important than the country in which it was issued.
