You are missing the point. I have no problem with the quality of healthcare, but rather the cost. The prices are out of control. I just got a $1,200.00 bill for the 15 mile ambulance ride I mentioned which involved none of the emergeny procedures for which I was billed. Even though the doctors misdiagnosed the problem I was billed for that also. With respect to the hospital...it was prepared to bill me for a three day extension of my stay simply because it was friday, and the surgeon did not feel like disturbing his weekend plans. The insurance premiums will soon be out of reach for many people. The government option simply provides a more affordable plan. In effect it is the equivalent of medicare available for everyone. It has worked in England since 1948, and is the preferred healthcare plan even though private insurance also exists.
We are not talking about reducing the quality of healthcare. Nor are we asking the government to take care of you...simply that there be a more affordable method of paying for healthcare other than leaving it in the hands of the insurance industry
