Hello, Mr. Franz,

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on this subject.  If you don’t mind, I’d like to share some of my observations.

Couple things.  First of all, the US EPA determined that that fish kill was caused by runoff from a coal mine. The claims of contamination from fracking water are as yet unsubstantiated.  Also, Governor Corbett ordered drilling companies in PA to stop sending frac fluid to treatment plants because of concerns about high levels of bromides (salts) in the water supply back in April 2011. (Guess that million don’t buy what it used to, lol!)  There are also a number of specialized Marcellus wastewater treatment plants coming online here in PA, including an environmentally friendly one over in
McKean County.

Now, the Dimock case is old news.  It was shoddy practices by the gas company that caused the problems there, not the fracking itself.  They ran that water line and kept delivering water to the residents because they were required to by law.  Now, if I understand you correctly, you’re saying that the company was responsible, co-operated with the authorities, supplied the water needs of the residents and complied with the law…if all that’s true, then what’s the problem?

Lastly, as anyone from southwestern
Pennsylvania can tell you, methane has been appearing in the drinking water around here since the days of the first coal mines in this region, and it’s anything but “stable”.  It’s nothing new and certainly no cause for alarm.

Good to see you posting again.

Regards,
Scott Perry
