Many of these people are older radicals from the 60's and early 70's. I can empathize with them. Congress is unresponsive to their needs...as it was in the days of the civil rights and anti-war movement. They remember the days of protest... the days of rage... the freedom riders, etc. It was a long hard pull, but ultimately it worked. It got the attention of our elected officials. Resulted in the Civil Rights Act of 1964...the Voting Rights Act of 1967...and the emd of a very unpopular war.
I do not know if they will succeed in organizing a political party. All they really need to do is draw attention to the failures of the encumbents and the lack luster programs espoused by the current list of candidates in time to vote them out of office next year.
