The OWS is a brand new movement with the same reason d'etre that brought the Tea Party to the fore- a set of grievances about the status quo.
I remember when the Tea Party got into screaming verbal beat downs of political candidates at Town Hall forums; brought repulsive signs showing the President dressed in pseudo "African" garb with a bone through his nose, and even, in some cases, brought weapons to political rallies, so their hands aren't entirely clean either.
The people occupying Wall Street & other spots around the globe are reacting to a culture where money is king & people are feeling the pain of unemployment, economic insecurity & a political culture that has been corrupted by big money. I read an article earlier this week that referred to OWS as an exercise in constructive group dynamics & a release from isolation, resignation & futility. Getting their voices heard & responded to, as was the case with the Tea Party, is a step forward towards action that hopefully bring about some changes in this country.
I hope the OWS people continue to march through the winter, & if they're smart, which I think they are, they will move it to Miami where it's warmer
