A few years ago, a Delaware document retrieval company burned through the Chester County title searchers. When they solicited me, I asked for a $200 retainer up front. Why a retainer? they asked. Well, you haven't paid six other searchers. "But we'll pay you" they (rep)lied.  Ha! With no retainer and no searcher they sent someone from their office daily for several weeks before shuttering their doors. It's amazing how these companies lie outright.  Aracor, as I mentioned in an earlier post, is circling the drain and yet they are recruiting searchers with no intention of ever paying them. One company I used to work for is still issuing title binders from their old cardstock, despite having no underwriter!
