Most counties are now digital, especially since the Covid shutdown. Many counties still have their hard copies/books, but the index is a different issue. The problem with the counties like Morrow, Columbiana, Ashtabula, and Lorain counties in Ohio that are totally down is that they backed up their systems with the same company that hosted their online index, Cott. So everything is lost at the moment. Many other counties were smart enough to back up their records using different sources and their indexes are accessible via other systems inside the county. So researchers in those counties can still do searches. I'm sure the counties that backed up their records to Cott are looking at other avenues now so they don't experience this again. (at least I hope they do!)
