Frightening? I suppose if you mean that people use this kind of propoganda to scare people into believeing that caring about the environment is an evil liberal conspiracy, then... yes, it is frightening.
Besides it really isn't even that complicated. Hypothetically, if I wanted "America to fail" I would just deregulate mega-corporations and allow them to do what ever they want to. I would deregulate the financial markets and let them trade derivitives that nobody understands and sell worthless investments to pension funds. I'd let investment banks leverage ordinary investor's money at ratios of more than 30:1. Then, when the were all on the verge of bankruptcy, I'd have America bail them out with tax dollars and borrowed money that the average Joe would have to payback for generations to come. Wait... didn't someone already do that? Was that the "evil liberals" too? Hmmm... don't think so.
Then, I'd get rid of all of the enviromental protection laws. Give the big oil companies tax breaks that aren't available to ordinary citizens so they can make record profits and build bigger oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico. What harm could come from that? It's not like anything could go wrong, right? What are the odds that there will be 4.9 million barrels of oil escaping into the waters? What are the odds that it woudl cause "extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats and to the Gulf's fishing and tourism industries?" Oh wait... that happened too? Was that the "evil liberals?" No? Hmmm.
Time to take off the tinfoil hat, buddy.
