Well, that’s bureaucracy for you, lol.

At least you had a hard copy index to verify your findings.  Most of the counties where I search that have transitioned to electronic/computer indices have no backup or contingency in place.  Those big canvas volumes can be a bit unwieldy, but at least they still work even if the power goes out.
