Good point, Ray.  Oftentimes, the recording information, date & time, etc. will be referenced only on the cover page.  My job is to search the index, examine the documents and report what I find.  Without that crucial piece of information, my research would be incomplete.  I can’t speak to the issue of enforceability, per se, but it is the local recorder, at least in Pennsylvania, who gets to say what is or is not an “official” part of the record.
