That headline is a little misleading in that it gives the impression that the corporation is indiscriminately dumping some sort of toxic chemical(s) into the water supply. Basically what happened is that Chesapeake dumped a few tons of gravel into a river to improve access to one of their drill sites, was cited by the feds, paid some $600,000.00 in penalties and restored the site to its previous condition. The article itself makes no mention of any actual harm to the river. In addition to this, the $1,088,000.00 Cheapeake has paid for its violations in Bradford and Washington counties should make it apparent to anyone that the current regulatory system is functioning as it should.
