As the article says, internships and residency are mandatory for doctors, why not lawyers?  Should we not hold them to the same high standards of professionalism?  After all, many lawyers, particularly in criminal cases, are called upon to make “life-and-death” decisions on behalf of their clients. 

There are many ways in which such a requirement could be met; it doesn’t have to be a “one-size-fits-all” solution.  However, I do agree with your point about abstractors and examiners.  There are too many low-information people in the record room these days who think that knowing how to look up a deed and pull a copy of an oil & gas lease makes them a “title examiner”.
