What I don't understand is why do we have to be the only industry where the client / customer tells the company where they are buying goods and services that they will pay only a reimbursement fee for goods. When we buy a copy that the client / customer has requested, it is our copy to sell to them at what price we detemine. How much we paid for it is not their business. Do you think the next time you need a new part for your car, you will only pay the mechanic the exact amount he paid for it?
If they will only pay the $1.00 or $.50 the county charged, keep in mind that fee is low because somebody went to the courthouse and printed it themselves on county supplied toner and paper. Even if it is a "free" on line copy, it is my toner and paper that generated the requested copy and then didn't I have to fax it or scan it to send it to them. So if they don't want to pay for a "free" courthouse copy, they can request the county office to fax that copy to them at $2.00 per page, plus faxing fees, or print the "free" on line copy themselves. We have clients that specifically tell us not to send them any courthouse copies that they can print themselves.
