I remember searching title to a property in Clinton, Ct several years ago in which it was necessary to go back to a deed shortly following the American Revolution. The buyer paid for the property in British pounds rather than American dollars. It was not clear whether we had a currency of our own at that time. It was interesting to see that this was a common practice in the southern states after the Louisiana Purchase in which the gold or silver content of the coins was more important that the nationality of their origen.
