If I’d been the examiner who’d missed that mortgage, I would have comped my entire fee for the search. Heck, I’ve been known to do that even when it’s only a matter of not meeting a promised deadline. My philosophy is that if my work isn’t up to standard, I’ve got no business asking someone to pay for it.
I'm not being critical of what you did, Kurt, but I probably would have handled that situation a little differently. If the vendor insisted on full payment, I’d pay their bill, but that would be the last of my money they’d ever see.
