They do ask for a number of odd things, mainly because they service all 50 states (I think). But I have found that if I politely tell them that something is not available in my county (or that it is already in my report on page _), that they accept this. I have never had anyone from their office be rude to me, even when we had a somewhat heated discussion about whether a two owner search should include searching the 3rd or 4th owner back for Federal & State tax liens (they were under the impression that all title searchers search back 20 years, even if that means they must chain the title further back than the 2 owners they asked for). We came to a compromise on that one - I will search all the owners in the 20 year period for the said liens, but I will charge extra if I have to do more than the original 2 owners.
