Good advice Heidi. Another good source is LinkedIn searching by company name and any executives names you can find on their website. They'll often let out the truth there. I'm also very suspicious of any company that has "tech" in the name. One last thing. I've found that checking the property tax records for the state can reveal some interesting facts.
