I wish I had written what you just posted.....right on the money.... as a Viet Nam Vet... I Thank you!!
This weekend more people thanked me for my service then I could believe...I was stunned.... so many don't understand what Memorial Day means. Like you said, those of us who came home have our day in November. Memorial Day is to remember those that didn't... "Those are the ones this weekend is for". I accepted the "thanks" , and didn't correct anyone as they at least saw something special in this holiday.
We had a fire pit last night with close friends and one friend asked our 9 year old granddaughter if she understood what this weekend was about..... you could hear a pin drop while she answered him and after she left it was shear silence. She never hesitated, never missed a beat... and nailed it.
I have never been so proud..... we all toasted those who died beside me and others.... and I raised my flag and Pow/Mia flag again at sundown.
To all of you out there please remember " All Gave Some.... Some Gave All".
