I had a discussion with an abstractor recently who said that information was not appearing in the new computer system after a conversion. Thankfully, at that time the old system was still running in the office and it was possible to check both. The computer company that maintains the software apparently told the clerk that "the information was still there and it will start showing up again the next time the system updates." Like... "the information is still there, somewhere, what are you worried about?"
And, it isn't just online records anymore. Too many counties are starting to use the same system in the office that is accessible online. Either way, the errors are frightening and it will cause E&O claims. The really scary thing is that by the time it becomes a claim, the information will miraculously be showing up again and nobody will now whether it was the abstractor's fault, or a "glitch" in the computer system.
Best,
Robert A. Franco
