We have conducted criminal record checks here in Maine for over 21 years. The one thing we learned years ago is that "Criminal Record Checks DO NOT provide reliable information on a Title Abstractor, or Anyone's criminal history.
I could go on forever describing how antiquated card files are inaccurate, and what gets correctly entered into a computerized record or what does not. If a computerized record is one day off on a birthday, they cannot report it. You can be charged, tried and found not guilty, and it would not be reportable.... only convictions are reportable.
The list of variables is lengthy, but the results can vary, clerk by clerk. Additionally, large background check companies use a lot of different online data bases, and errors abound.
Best thing to do is go to your local courthouse and run a check on yourself. State Police and Sheriff Department records are a combination of court records, and State Police arrest records.
