GLBT equality is the civil rights issue of our time. Bravo to the appraiser and Slade for defending equality. This is no different from stating 'We Serve Black People" would have been years ago, and the orginator of this thread is no less bigoted than if she had written here to object to that then.
The fact is GLBT people are denied over a thousand rights most straight people take for granted.
Further, religious objections are based on faulty interpretations of a few passages which are read very differently by clergy, theologians, and many other Christians today, which is a big reason churches are changing, not Hollywood.. Many Christians have prayerfully studied this issue and come to different conclusions. The Bible has scores of passages supporting slavery and women as 2nd class citizens for instance, but applying what we now know, we no longer follow those passages literally. Christians are called to worship with their minds after all. If one still holds old views despite what we now know, they can only be clinging to prejudice. Those views hurt people, and given that the same percentage of GLBT has always existed across time and cultures, it is highly likely someone with this writer's views are knowingly or unknowlingly hurting someone they know, or even love. This ignorance literally leads to death for many. Consider 20 - 40 percent of the nations' youth runaways are on the street because their family's rejected them for being gay. The rate of suicide among GLBT is far higher than the rest of the population. All are of course free to follow their own views and interpretations, but keep them out of our laws.
So for those who would consider they do not know what they do not know regarding this issue of theology, and there may be other ways to read the passages they think they know, please consider godmademegay.com,and the Letter to Louise written by a straight, old school, married Baptist pastor who has done the homework for you. A little theology never hurt, and it may even save the life of someone you love.
