Years ago I was told this by my father, who wasn't rich, had opportunities to change careers or do something he wasn't comfortable with for more money, and loved his business. I tried working with him for 3 years; he wanted to pass business on to me. I didn't love it. He understood. I LOVED and miss title researching - the old 60-year, paper book and maps, physically in the Land Records office (never arm wrestle with a title searcher), not today's way.
To quote an older brother to his parent criticizing his younger brother for not getting grades as good as his cousin (same age, same class): "The world can always use another ditch digger." Younger brother is not digging ditches, but today he's happily married with children, a comfortable home, a job he loves, and a salary that pays the bills.
Job satisfaction and "meaning" is what you make of it.
