WOW!
Lots to be said about copy fees.
I have written on here several times about copy fees, it seems to be a business service most in our field understands but a few do not.
I have been asked to give a copy of receipt for copies and a break down of fees etc in the past.
Response is depending on what office (up to 6 different in each county) we retrieve copies from depends on how it is paid. Some we have an account for, some we pay for all copies retrieved that day, some we put cash on a card or account some we pay cash on the spot some we drop quarters or bills in a machine. There are not receipts for all of these copy retrievals. If they wanted a receipt just for their copies that would be an extra charge for each one I had to get from each office to much time wasted.
In our counties if someone were to request copies from county via phone or email in most offices they would be charged $2.00 for first page and $1.00 per page of each document and then mailing fee and would have to get whole documents. They would have to pay in advance and since none of the counties except credit cards it would have to be by check or money order through the mail and receive documents back through the mail. Once payment is received it could take up to 2 weeks for them to process the request. It could take over 3 weeks to get your documents.
I do not understand why it is not understood that retrieving copies is also a service. The time and effort to get the copies there are so many different ways needed, computer, copier, micro film, waiting for office personal to do it, having to deal with old heavy books, sorting through everyone else's copies to get yours out, waiting for extremely slow printers then gathering all copies needed from all offices, putting them in order and sending them in. We have to put up our money for them anywhere form 30 to 90 days.
Copy fee in reality is a service that is why the county charges so much for it also.
The copy fee that is charged for someone willing to come in and get themselves is just for those on the ground in the county. The only fee needed to be relayed to the client is what it would cost them if they had to retrieve copies form county themselves via phone or email.
