Michael,
I own this site, and I think you are dead wrong. Charging a higher copy fee than what the county charges is good practice. I insist that my examiners charge $1.00 per page, even where the county only charges $0.25 per page. It takes longer to make copies for those clients who want "full copies of everything." Those client should pay more than those that only want a copy of the current deed. The search fee is the same, the mark-up on the copies pays for the additional labor as the client may demand.
And, I don't think the fee is disguised. I'm sure Marian notifies her client of her fees ahead of time. I send a fee sheet to all of my client that clearly states "plus $1.00 per page for copies."
So, before you insult any of my guests on Source of Title, you really should take some time to think about it. On behalf of Source of Title, Marian has my full support. If you are the client that refuses to pay your abstractors to make copies, shame on you.
Best,
Robert.
