It is my understanding that since I operate under an S corporation for tax purposes that my company as a vendor is exempt and does not need to file a new W-9 every year with each client.

There is a specific exemption for incorporated entities provided by the IRS.  We have a few clients who still demand a new one each year, but the ones who actually have read the tax code don't repeatedly ask for a new W-9 each year.
