When I started in business, I would charge copy fees. When I got paid, I got a check for the search ordered and later (sometimes 2 weeks) got another check for the copy fee for the search, which became confusing. I talked to several title companies about it and they told me that they were aware some abstractors took advantage of them by over charging for copy fees. This was very annoying to them. So I made up my mind, to just incorporate the copy fee into the price of each search. Now my fees were higher than many other companies, but when pricing them I would always add "copies included", which eliminated the animosity over copy fees and gave me favor with the title companies. With the local in-state companies, all updates for a period of 90 days after the search was included in the price of the search. So my search fees looked like this.

Current owner search: $75.00 (copies included)

30 year search: $125.00  (copies included)

Local companies

Current owner search: $75.00 (copies and updates included)

30 Year search: $150.00 (Copies and updates included)
