I think we've all struggled, as self employed people, with health care coverage for years. Perhaps the explanation for rate increases since the ACA might be that the insurance companies (and their lobbyists and attorneys) have figured out a way to maximize their profits under this scenario. The Minneapolis Tribune did an article this weekend which reported that United Health Care is the largest and most profitable business in Minnesota. Their profit last year was a half a billion more than 3M. And there was a study last year that showed that their CEO was also paid multiples of any other in the state (United also has the highest paid woman in the state). Maybe we're a little too quick to blame the forces that try to counteract corporate greed. There's a reason no other country in the world has the health care system we do.
