Being a timely payer will get your work to the top of the pile.
Understand that there is a downward limit to the time required to perform searches. Right now, in an advertising push to grab more market share, industry players are pushing for a two-day turnaround time for sixty year searches. Easy, if it's one report. But give me ten, and some will have to wait. Not all clients understand this. And of course, some reports are more (or much more) complicated than others, and this requires more time as well. How long until we have a 24-hour requirement for all work?
Also: don't refuse a searcher's upcharge on the county copy costs. Copies take time to make, scan and upload (while the parking meter ticks away). Adding fifty cents or a dollar per copy is our way of factoring the increased time and expense.
Don't charge searchers to give them orders.
Don't require searchers to type their reports onto your website. We're not data entry technicians.
