Having been a former Deputy Register of Deeds, I know I did everything to avoid even the appearance of a conflict.  I didn't even own, purchase or sell property while being Deputy Register of Deeds.  But that doesn't mean I could not have.  The danger is it could become a campaign issue in the next election.  And incumbents hate campaign controversies. If they were in my political party, I would tell them to cut it out.  If there were not in my party, I would be drafting the press release right now.
