The Association is reconsidering the way the Certification program is designed.  The class was an option, currently there is a study manual available.  The Conference is not mandatory but an option and really a great networking opportunity.  Healthy competitors strengthen our cause.  By not communicating with our peers we miss opportunities to elevate our craft.  Even the Realtors belong to a large Association, they are all fierce competitors.  It seems to work very well for them.
