First, I agree with Robert Franco that abstractors / title researchers need to get your industry associations such as ALTA and various state title associations to speak for you FORCEFULLY, they may not be able to stop your job outsourcing to some cheap countries.. but it may have some effects.

Secondly, I'm curious about how you perform title search, I guess both online and offline, even for the latter, you could consider to use a laptop or even tablet to capture your search results as notes or as if composing a gmail message... then, you could copy search results to Software such as my title report tool ( http://titlereporttool.com/ ) to turn it into a nice PDF report.  This way, it not only saves you time but also makes your client happy for delivering them a typed report.  A key issue may be habit...

Third, I would imagine that some title company owners may initially be abstractors, that is, any room to expand to similar business?  Of course I'm thinking loud here...
